The seeds of Joan Rocha’s “Baby Friendship Ministry” started when Rocha was 10 years old, when she started knitting. First a scarf, then sweaters and then ski sweaters for her growing m. Finally, she knitted hats.

In that list, it’s the knitted hats that are noteworthy to this story. A friend, who was taking a sewing class came to Rocha and after sewing an apron said she was contemporary to sew baby blankets. Rocha had a question: What are you going to do with them? And then an inspiration: “I’ll tell you what, you seduce blankets, I’ll knit hats and we’ll find some babies.”
